After statue to Garegin Nzhdeh was unveiled in Yerevan, Moscow expressed its discontent through its analysts and historians, to which Armenia’s power circles dared to reflect by common formulations only, introducing as justification to the circumstance that it’s not the disposition of separate individuals and not that of official Moscow. So, Moscow says it’s such an official disposition, which is pronounced by the official representative of Russia’s Foreign Minister.
“Our attitude towards any manifestation of heroism, neo-Nazism, extremism of Nazism is well known as well. That attitude is enshrined in international documents. It’s unclear to us, why that statue was placed, as we all know about the deed of the Armenian people, it’s the immortal deed of Armenian people during the Great Patriotic War, World War II,” she said.
“The Headquarters doesn’t face the issue of cheap supply. I repeat once again, it faces the issue of qualified and well-timed provision of material resources,” Movses Hakobyan said.
The German resolution is also significant because of the shadow of the Holocaust. In the 1940s, the Polish lawyer Raphael Lemkin coined the term “genocide” chiefly to describe the Holocaust of the Jews. The term’s close association with the Holocaust leaves the other examples of genocide that Lemkin invoked—including the slaughter of one million Armenians—in an invidious position: they are constantly compared and contrasted with an even larger and more deliberate instance of mass killing.
