We May Open a New Page between the EU and Armenia Partnership Relations: EU Ambassador

Business perspectives, obstacles and possibilities for the improvement of business atmosphere in Armenia were covered at the business forum held in the Komitas Museum-Institute. Hovik Abrahamyan, RA Prime Minister, stated that works are being implemented to make Armenia a more attractive country.

“We have declared and are persistently pursuing the policy of open doors,” H.Abrahamyan said.

According to him steps directed to improvement of business atmosphere are highly assessed by international organizations. He highlighted, that foreign companies felt at ease in Armenia. H.Abrahamyan highly assessed existence of GSP+ regime in trade with the EU, and stated that Armenia will have a GSP+ with Canada and Norway.

“We pay particular attention to investment programs, focusing on creation of workplaces,” the PM said.

Ambassador Piotr Świtalski, Head of EU Delegation to Armenia, stated that Armenians have their original genetic entrepreneurial vein, and only a corresponding environment and legislation is ncessary.

“We may open a new page between partnership relations of the EU and Armenia,” Świtalski said, expressing hope that they will be able to make use of existent possibilities. The Ambassador stated that signing of a frame agreement between the EU and Armenia will be recorded soon.

“There is a beneficial environment in Armenia and it needs to be maintained, your investment in it is rather great,” the Ambassador said to the Prime Minister.

According to Artsvik Minasyan, RA Minister of Economy, frame agreement will provide answers to many questions. He stressed raising of activity within EU businessmen through GSP+ system as well. In his words, they’re ready for creation of equal competition and providing progress to any business initiatives. The Minister assured, that with joint efforts they’ll be able to give solution to numerous issues.

Hovhannes Hovsepyan, head of State Revenue Committee (SRC), stated that European Business Association will become a platform for expansion of European business ties, “RA Government has constantly undertaken measures to provide transparent and predictable environment for businessmen. SRC is taking steps towards implementation of balanced tax and customs administration. The Tax Code will provide a predictable business atmosphere for business and a transparent environment for investments.” H.Hovsepyan also expressed readiness in name of SRC to discuss existent issues in the field of taxes and customs and find solutions to them.
