Electricity price reduction by AMD 1.22 will have no effect on consumers: Aram Grigoryan
“Naturally, that reduction can’t be satisfactory, as it can’t have any influence on the consumer situation, in particular, in winter months more or less 1000 drams have no importance,” Aram Grigoryan, Executive Director of the Public Defenders Association, told 168.am commenting on reduction of electricity tariff by 1.22 dram for consumers from February 1.
He stated that 1.22 dram means that the consumer should consume 1000 kW to pay less by AMD 1220, and nobody consumes 1000 kW.
Daytime tariff for electricity of socially needy families will comprise 40 drams, and at night hours—30 drams. According to the expert there is a permanent issue with this layer of the society. According to A.Grigoryan economically such differentiation isn’t correct, as by that the issue isn’t being solved, “For them tariff reduction comprises 4-5 drams, which is insignificant, and has no effect. Moreover, when the socially needy consume even less.”
“I think the issue should be observed from global perspective, otherwise reduction by 1 dram, then raising the price by 3 drams 6 months later, no issue is solved this way. Currently in the region Armenia sells the most expensive electricity by having an APP, which produces the cheapest energy. That’s the point,” A.Grigoryan said.
