Vartan Oskanian’s son arrested, suspected in kidnapping
A citizen, identified as N. Berberyan, reported to law enforcement agencies that on February 16 his friend H. Siradaryan and the latter’s cousin A. Oskanyan demanded him to return the money which he had borrowed from them, during which he was forcibly kept in a vehicle and threatened with physical violence, the Investigative Committee informed.
The Investigative Committee launched a criminal case into the incident, taking into account that the happening is a crime under the Criminal Code, namely kidnapping, physical violence or the threat of violence, and premeditation.
“Based on intial data, at 17:00, February 16, N. Berberyan was taken into a vehicle from Leningradyan Street, Yerevan, and driven to Abovyan city against his will, threatened with violence, illegally restrained and demanded to return the debt of 1 million 500 thousand drams. On February 17, A. Oskanyan and H. Siragaryan were detained for kidnapping.
They refused to testify. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances and details of the incident,” the Investigative Committee said in a statement. According to some online reports, A. Oskanyan is the son of former foreign minister Vartan Oskanian.
