Armenia’s economic activity rises by 6.5% in January

The Armenian economic activity index for January 2017 surpassed the index of the same period of the previous year by 6.5%. The National Statistical Service of the Republic of Armenia has introduced the current-operative preliminary main macro-economic indicators characterizing the socio-economic situation of Armenia.

Decline was registered only in the construction field. Construction volume decreased by 5.3% compared to the same period of the previous year. The electricity production volume increased by 13.6% in January, 2017, compared to January 2016. Service volume (trade excluded) increased by 12.1% compared to January, 2016, and agricultural production rose by 0.2%.

The trade turnover increased by 9.4% and comprised 128 billion 759.3 million AMD. The industrial production volume comprised 108 billion 122.5 million AMD, increasing by 12.2% compared to January, 2016. Average monthly wage increased by 6.2% (188 thousand 572 drams). External trade turnover volumes rose by 45.5% (358.7 million USD) compared to January, 2016, moreover, the export grew up by 35.4% (121.5 million USD) and the import rose by 51.4% (237.2 million USD).

US exchange rate against the dram was 486.01. All absolute rates are presented based on current prices.
