Strikes cancel 600 flights in Berlin
At least 600 flights from Berlin’s Tegel and Schoenefeld airports have been cancelled as the latest round of industrial action by ground crew entered its second day.
Tegel has cancelled 460 flights and Schoenefeld another 143, according to an airport spokesperson, who added that further cancellations could happen over the course of Tuesday.
The spokesperson was unable to confirm if, like Monday, some flights would be diverted to nearby airports.
The airport management recommended all passengers contact their airline to confirm the status of their flights.
The Verdi trade union decided on Monday to increase pressure on the employers due to the lack of any response on their part, by extending the strike until Wednesday.
The German airline company, Air Berlin, has warned the strike was causing massive losses among airline companies.
