Aleppo gradually recovers, some Syrian-Armenians return to city

Aleppo is slowly recovering after being liberated. Already signicant works were carried out towards infrastructure improvement, Jirair Reisian – Armenian lawmaker of Syria’s Parliament told. He informed that the city’s closed roads are already opened.

“Already works were conducted towards removing rockfalls, heaps that have closed the roads. As for the houses, I must say that small renovation works are being done. Everyone restores the damaged houses as much as he can. Major damages of the buildings must be included in other programs,” Jirair Reisian said.

By the efforts of the local authorities, works were implemented on relaunching the central market. “Signicant works have been done towards the relaunch of Aleppo airport. It can be said that the works are at the completion stage,” he said.

The water supply issue is yet unresolved. Reisian informed that this issue requires quite a long time. The armed groups cut the water supply and the water was not entering into the city.

“But already in the past days the army managed to reach those regions. Due to large-scale works the water reached to the city. It is supposed that in the upcoming days we will have a water supply,” he stated.

As for the electricity, the lawmaker said currently it is provided for several hours. Jirair Reisian informed that the Armenian schools operate in Aleppo. As for the possible return of Syrian-Armenians to the city, he said there is already a progress over this issue.

“There is already a movement of Syrian-Armenians, some families took practical steps and returned to the city. I cannot give exact numbers, but there are people who returned. They are both from Lebanon and the Western countries,” the Armenian lawmaker said.

Aleppo was liberated on December 12, 2016.
