Damascus ready to discuss Syria’s new Constitution: Assad
Syrian authorities are ready to discuss the country’s new Constitution, but they want to know who will take part in the Geneva talks, President Bashar Al-Assad said, TASS reports.
“We are ready to discuss everything, including the Constitution, but we need to know who are going to take part in the Geneva talks, whether they are going to discuss the same document or not,” Assad said.
He recalled that the Syrian opposition’s delegation didn’t take part in the regular round of Astana talks last week. He said this decision is linked with Turkey’s “negative inuence”.
Earlier Russia proposed a draft on establishing a constitutional commission which will deal with preparation of new Constitution.
The 5th round of Geneva talks on Syria will launch on March 23. The sides are going to discuss the creation of the Government, the schedule for the development of new basic law, the elections and the fight against terrorism.
