“Past” newspaper: A new attempt to “lock Ashotyan up”

“Past” newspaper writes the following: “According to Past newspaper’s information, today another attempt will be made to institute a criminal case against Vice-President of the Republican Party of Armenia Armen Ashotyan, against whom similar attempts have already been made.

Weeks ago, the Investigative Committee issued a statement, the content and description of which showed that it concerned Ashotyan, even though his name wasn’t mentioned in the statement. The statement concerned a case related to abuse of official position and causing a large amount of damage to the state. However, the case was sent back to the Investigative Committee because, according to the opinion that was being circulated back then, the case lacked serious legal grounds.

Let us remind that, back then, in regard to the case, Ashotyan had said that there was a court judgment announced against the head of a school in a distant village of Armenia that would lead the school to closure, and this is why Ashotyan, as minister, deemed it necessary to interfere and save the school from bankruptcy and closure.

And now, according to Past newspaper’s information, Ashotyan has been summoned to the Investigative Committee within the framework of the case.

According to the newspaper’s source, the reason for this haste is not only the recent political events, but also the coarse statement that President of the European People’s Party Donald Tusk made on Wednesday in regard to the events unfolding in the Republic of Armenia.

As is known, Ashotyan is the foreign policy officer of the Republican Party of Armenia, and according to Past newspaper’s source, in this way, Pashinyan is trying to liquidate Ashotyan.”
