One more attempt to silence Armen Ashotyan

Later on today, it became known that Armen Ashotyan, vice-chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), was taken from his apartment to the Investigative Committee (IC).

To remind, on June 6, the press wrote about the possible arrest of Armen Ashotyan.

Later, on June 12, in a conversation with journalists, the RPA vice-president said that he had heard about it, but if by isolating him, they think that they can silence him, then such a thing is not possible.

“I know that they are doing some actions against me, putting pressure on some people, making promises, what new things have they thrown into the field? Maybe active remorse… The case lasts eight months, I am an accused for eight months, and I did not participate in the investigative operation, except for the very first day. It is obvious that they are trying to make up something. Pressuring on various people to be able to make it to the next stage. If the purpose is to silence me, both before and after, I have not been silent, nor will I be silent. If the purpose is to scare the rest, there are plenty of people in Armenia who are not afraid of them. It is not only about the political field. As for me, wherever I am, in political exile or in political detention, I will continue my struggle,” said the RPA vice-president.

The latter said that they want to “sew” another case on him with an obvious political background.

To remind, that 168.am even back in 2022, wrote on November 22 about Armen Ashotyan’s possible arrest. In those days, the former rector of YSMU, Mikael Narimanyan, was arrested, and they tried to isolate Armen Ashotyan within the same case, accusing him, among other things, of money laundering.

At that time, however, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee was unable to obtain the desired testimony against Armen Ashotyan even after interrogating more than 100 people.

A few days after our publication, Armen Ashotyan’s BMIS (Border Management Information System.) was blocked, and he could not travel to Lisbon to participate in the EPP Political Forum.

Later, Armen Ashotyan was charged and the ban on absenteeism was chosen as a preventive measure.

“Armen Ashotyan was arrested in the framework of the criminal proceedings regarding the apparent abuses committed at the “Yerevan State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi ” foundation, which is being investigated by the RA Investigative Committee’s main department for the investigation of particularly important cases, on the basis of violating the terms of the restraining order. Necessary investigative actions are being carried out with him at the moment,” the IC informed Radar.am, adding that later they will issue a message presenting the details of the case.

The 168.am filming staff is currently broadcasting live from the Investigative Committee.
