Alexander Arzumanyan: That question is unacceptable

We asked former foreign minister of Armenia Alexander Arzumanyan to comment on Heritage opposition party representative Zarouhi Postanjyan’s question to president Sargsyan at a PACE session asking if it is true that the president has lost money in European casinos. “There are certain diplomatic behavior norms that people should adhere to. It is unacceptable to ask such questions at international institutions. Everyone should be free to decide how to act, however, I believe asking such question in international institutions does not look good,” says Alexander Arzumanyan. He believes that asking such question first of all harms Armenia’s image. “There are similar problems in all other countries as well. Have you heard anyone asking such question or addressing personal insult at international institutions?

There are many other problems she could ask the president about. However, for me such insulting statements are unacceptable as I have not met such practice in my diplomatic career,” said Arzumanyan. In answer to question whether parliament speaker Hovik Abrahamyan’s decision to make replacements in the delegation to PACE is not very strict he said, “Every faction has its right for nomination. It is established in the parliamentary bylaws that the speaker is entitled to approve the members of delegations. Now they are discussing whether they will leave Postanjyan in that group or remove her, which is their right,” said Alexander Arzumanyan.
