Staging of any scenario delayed

The parliamentary four non-government political parties failed to come to an agreement on bringing up a bill to start a process of impeachment. The official explanation is that these powers have decided to let the ANC develop their decision on creation of a commission to look into the events of March 1 as the anniversary is closer.

This will help them to show that they still care about discovering the perpetrators of the crime. However, in fact it would be possible to discuss the bill on impeachment after the discussion of this one. In fact the non-government political powers in the parliament understand that if a bill on impeachment is brought up, it can collect maximum 20 votes.

PA and ARF parliamentarians who have businesses are not ready to risk their wealth and damage their relations with the government. If this bill is brought up for vote, it will show that the four opposition parties have 20 or 25 votes in the parliament instead of 53. These political powers would not want this happen. In fact this does not mean that the issue of impeachment is out of the agenda as one day in the near future this issue may be brought up, and then turned down again.

The issue of impeachment has become a tool for low season campaign for the non-government political powers in the parliament. There were times when these powers were using the issue of demanding resignation from the president. However, times have changed, and those who prepare the agenda of non-government powers have changed too, and they have succeeded in bringing the level of demands of these powers down to the level of demanding the Prime-Minister’s resignation.
