Yesterday the government of Karabakh released a statement, which says that “The foreign ministry of the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh recognizes the referendum of the people of the Crimea on March 16 as another implementation of people’s right for self-determination.

The right of every nation to choose their own future and destiny, which is also established by the UN Charter and international treaties, is one of the basic principles of international law. The recent precedents, especially the referendums in Catalonia and Scotland, that the respect for people’s right for self-determination is the most optimal and democratic was for peaceful settlement of similar conflicts.

The foreign ministry of NKR hopes the situation as a result of the referendum in the Crimean Sovereign Republic will be solved lawfully and in peaceful conditions.”
