Armenian Culture Lies at the Core of My Art, but France is the Land of my Heart and My Language: Aznavour
World famous French-Armenian singer Charles Aznavour will give a concert at the Dubai World Trade Centre on February 12.
As “Armenpress” reports, in an interview with The National Arabic-language newspaper before the concert, Aznavour said his artistic talent developed in a family of artists that didn’t have much financial resources, but were rich with their heart and generosity. “I am very happy to have found my calling in life and to have met interesting people who have sparked interest in me,” Charles Aznavour said.
The newspaper emphasizes that, at the age of 91, Aznavour has already starred in 60 films, written over 1,200 songs, sings in 8 languages and has sold over 180 million albums. “Armenian culture lies at the core of my art, but France is the land of my heart and my language. I hope Armenia eventually lives in peace and all the problems related to its borders are solved,” Aznavour said.
In 1975, he composed the “They Came” ballad dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. In 2008, Aznavour acquired Armenian citizenship and was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Switzerland.
