Nobody Ever Asked Turks Why They Killed Armenians. What was the Reason?—Charles Aznavour on CNN

World-famous French-Armenian chansonnier Charles Aznavour gave an interview to prominent American TV channel CNN, where  in a talk with B.Anderson touches upon the issue on recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey, in line with other issues.

As to the question on what it means for him to be an Armenian, Aznavour mentioned that being French is much important for him than to be an Armenian but he is an Armenian and he is not going to deny that. “I am Armenian and I am not going to deny that. It will be terrible. I do not like people who hide something because they are afraid of not being welcomed somewhere. You do not like Armenians? I leave, goodbye,” Aznavour mentioned.

The CNN’s reporter reminded that Charles Aznavour was in Armenia 24 April 2015 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in the limits of which Aznavour said he doesn’t particularly mind whether people are prepared to use word Genocide or not, he simply wants the recognizing of what happened. “You are absolutely right. Why should Turks recognize what happened? Nobody ever asked Turks why they killed Armenians. What was the reason? Religion…? I do not believe. I have read the Quran because I wanted to know if there is anything in it but nothing was there, so it is not connected with religion,” Aznavour said.

CNN reporter wanted to understand what the secret of the singer is as taking into account his younger years, critics said that he is too ugly, short and has terrible voice. “Unfortunately for the critics who have said all that, I had success. I read a book every night for 1 hour and I learnt something in different languages every night before to go to sleep,” Aznavour informed adding that right now he is trying to learn Russian.
