Expert Recommends not to Panic in Case of Additional Vaccinations against Poliomyelitis
Attenuated vaccines against poliomyelitis will be changed into inactivated vaccines till 2020 throughout the world, including Armenia, Director of the Health Ministry’s National Center of Disease Control and Prevention Gayane Sahakyan mentioned in the interview with “Armenpress”.
“Measures are being taken against poliomyelitis not only in Armenia but around the world. The mentioned measures will be conducted by several directions. First of all it refers to the change of vaccine since April, this year. Attenuated vaccines against poliomyelitis will gradually be changed into inactivated vaccines till 2020 throughout the world. The process will be in the same way in Armenia. This additional vaccine is aimed at further strengthening of the second type of immunity,” Gayane Sahakyan emphasized referring to the issues on additional vaccines.
According to her, those regions are under consideration where the children can be in the targeted groups and if there is a poliovirus circulation, they will be vulnerable.
“In order to strengthen immunity among these children, one additional dose is expected to use. We should not worry as it is not a new vaccine but the same vaccine which is used in the planning calendar. It is a high-quality vaccine of Belgian production which has been used over years,” Director of the Health Ministry’s National Center of Disease Control and Prevention added.
