Clooney Offered to Work in “The Washington Post”

Editor of “The Washington Post” David Ignatius offered George Clooney to work for “The Washington Post” in Yerevan. As “Armenpress” reports, both are participating in the “Against the Crime of Genocide” Global Forum.

With his speech, Clooney captivated the Editor of “The Washington Post”. “Thank you George, In case you stop acting, come to “The Washington Post”, I will hire you as a reporter”, David Ignatius said.

“I can say that 24-hour news cycle forms an insensitive audience, because that news becomes common. When you hear about 1 million refugees, it is just a number; it is more effective when a little boy is found dead washed ashore. In this case people find time to focus on this issue, and then they realize that the UN has not done enough for the refugee crisis. The way we respond to the refugee crisis is horrible”, Clooney said.

According to him, people lose the vision of humanitarianism when they learn about crisis by way of great numbers. “Three days ago, 500 people were reported to have been killed in a shipwreck, and then you switch the channel and continue to watch other news. We have to change the effect of news and movies.

We have to speak about people who risked their lives to save others. We have to speak about concrete events, not about numbers, because when we look in the eyes of people, the situation changes”, Clooney said.

Clooney said that he has special respect for the newsmen due to his father. Clooney said he follows the news, but he regrets that for example the CNN shows an empty tribune, waiting for the US Presidential candidate Donald Trump to deliver a speech, instead of providing that air time to a family who is trying to get out of Aleppo.
