Women’s Participation in Negotiations Increase Peace Credibility by 20%: Nancy E.Soderberg
Lots of issues in the world weren’t solved without women. Nancy Soderberg, Former U.S. Deputy National Security Advisor and Ambassador to the United Nations, expressed this viewpoint at Aurora Dialogues launched today, introducing her report on “Women’s role in international humanitarian community,” stated that peace demands women to participate in negotiations as negotiators and decision-makers.
In her words, each woman should have her role in peace process. She also stated that women don’t initiate conflicts, however, they are responsible for their implications.
“Why should we leave women’s talent? Survey showed, when women are free to choose, governments are more responsive, when people’s rights are equal, more stable and states are at peace. I don’t say women are better, than men, excuse me guys, but in many fields, where there are women, more success is recorded,” Soderberg said.
In her words, participation of women in negotiation raises peace credibility by 20%. According to her, states, which have high-level gender equality, reach more success in peace, as “women have powerful tools for conflict settlement.”
She stated, that women should be invited at the negotiation table, “It’d be better, that more presidents, prime ministers were women, it’d be even better, that UNO secretary-general were a woman.”
N.Soderberg is convinced, when women use their whole potential, rather unreal issues may become real.
