When will Stepanakert-Yerevan Interstate Strategic Road Be Put to Right?
Stepanakert-Yerevan road of interstate strategic importance is partially in poor condition. The issue has become rather urgent from early April war, however, its settlement seems to be postponed. Until now some parts of the road initiate serious inconveniences for drivers. The footage was made by one of the citizens on May 2.
168.am asked Artur Arakelyan, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, when the highway will be renovated.
“Currently roadworks are underway, which will be finalized tomorrow,” the Deputy Prime Minister stated.
According to him the problem is that the program is implemented by North-South road program, that’s why for the time being big investments aren’t made, as it’s anticipated to construct a new road by that program. A.Arakelyan stated, that’s the reason decision was made to partially implement roadworks, funding was provided upon Government decision of March 31, and works are underway, “We were short of time to start it earlier. During those hard days there was even snow, and, as soon as weather conditions improved, woks have been launched, and they’ll be finalized tomorrow, if weather conditions won’t change again.”
To the question when the road will be renovated within North-South road program, A.Arakelyan stated, that project work is about to be finalized.
“In any case, the issue is in the center of our attention,” he assured, adding if the road didn’t repeat North-South road program, naturally, more serious investments would have been made for that road, and it would be completely renovated and reconstructed, and as far as big investments are anticipated from the program, decision was made to temporarily settle the problem.
