Full House of Putin Supporters in Yerevan
If not Russia and if Turkey wasn’t engaged with Karabakh war, then Armenia would have collapsed. This idea with different formulations has been frequently circulated recently by representatives of oppositional powers. This idea was being heard from Russian propaganda and political-expert communities during the days of the April war and after it. This idea was being stated to justify Russian betrayal towards Armenia throughout the April war days.
This horrifying scenario described by Russian circles and the Armenian opposition, surely, at least has the right to exist. However, the situation, slightly said, isn’t that simple, as introduced in those propagandist-manipulative statements. The motivation, by which some representatives of the opposition attempt to return to the “Russian line,” making use of that Soviet-Russian propaganda threat, is rather primitive.
After the April war Armenia’s authorities took some steps if not against Russia, then out of Armenia’s interests, not in line with Russia-Azerbaijan interests. It’s difficult to say how far the authorities will go by those steps. It’s not excluded though that those very authorities took those steps to “withdraw” at a proper moment and show Russia its faithfulness.
However, the Russian segment of opposition has moved forward. Calculations are rather simple: showing Russia, that meanwhile Armenia’s authorities were taking suspicious steps, they more than ever served Russian policy in Armenia. Parliamentary elections are ahead, and the political lesson still in its former stereotype, spontaneously or not, started to be served to Russia to get the “ОК” for a few mandates in the elections.
They didn’t understand that the April war has changed almost everything, hopefully, first and foremost, the authorities’ development mechanism in Armenia. They, who struggle for fair elections at the statement level, in fact, intend to be elected not by Armenia’s society, but by the Kremlin.
However, they didn’t understand either that after the April war, the Kremlin will no more “participate” in Armenia’s elections.
