We should Improve Policies, not Persons: Richard Giragosian

“We should improve policy, not persons,” Richard Giragosian, Director of Regional Research Center, political scientist told at the “Women of Caucasus for peace and stability. Peace starts from your home” 4th annual conference, touching upon politics and gender.

Reflecting to the woman’s role in Armenia’s political and social life, he stated that we’re all tired, however, it’s not the time to sleep, it’s time to wake up. In his words, we should learn lessons from April, and not of July. Based on Giragosian’s observations, the April war more deepened the suffering, however, it also created new reality—corruption challenge, and July was a reflection to that challenge. “Violence isn’t a solution, our choice is politics and reforms,” Giragosian said. He introduced 5 primary issues of the political life.

The political scientist said that decisions made today will influence on the life of forthcoming generations. “Change of PMs, in my personal point of view, will be a welcomed development, however, it’s enough to change people. We should improve policies, not persons,” Giragosian said.

In his conviction Armenia is a very small country to fail. According to him Armenia, being such a small country, has great privilege, for real change many people and many things aren’t required. “And that change is coming, although they don’t realize it yet,” he said, adding that real change should be recorded in Armenia, inside Armenia and by Armenians.

According to Giragosian we can’t pin hopes on external support, and blame Putin in all shortcomings.
