“Black January” period for Azerbaijanis this week: David Babayan

“Azerbaijan’s activeness of recent days is its essence: fascist, Nazi, terrorist,” David Babayan, NKR president’s spokesperson told 168.am, stating that some seasonal variations are being recorded, in certain periods they are more active, however, in his words, it’s linked to a range of developments.

“January is a bit symbolic, firstly, it’s New Year, then a post-holiday period, and they always attempt to wish happy holidays by their own way—spoil the mood of Armenians, repeatedly violating ceasefire regime.

Besides, this is their “black January” period: massacres of Armenians in Baku reached their peak on January 13, 1993 and when the Soviet army entered Baku on January 20 to save Armenians alive from massacres, it clashed with an army of terrorists, killers, and as a result, casualties have been recorded. Random people comprised a rather small number among them, and most of the people  buried in Azerbaijan’s Martyrs’ Lane are killers, terrorists, who killed the Armenian population,” he clarified, adding that they are heroes for Azerbaijanis.

“As we observed later, this “good tradition” continued, and all criminals and maniacs are made heroes in Azerbaijan. And now Azerbaijan is more active these days, so that “black January” and attempts to proceed with its anti-Armenian policy was continuous,” he said.

David Babayan stressed, so that it behaved more constrained in parallel with the international community, Azerbaijan is making statements that the Armenian side launched shootings, attacks, so that statements, which should be made, were unaddressed and unbalanced, “By that, in fact, it attempts to avoid responsibility, and it’s experienced strategy and tactics, which has been used for more than 2 decades.”

To the question whether the statement by the OSCE MG Co-Chairs regarding the incident in Tavush gives Azerbaijan freedom to activate, which, seems to be addressed to the Armenian side, he said,

“The point is, as Azerbaijan is making such statements, the mediators are obliged to summarize the statements of all sides. By that Azerbaijan, first and foremost, puts mediators in an uneasy situation, and they are obliged to make “balanced” and unaddressed statements. However, that strategy by mediators doesn’t function, i.e. it isn’t effective, targeted, concrete statements should be made, and the side, which is guilty, should be brought to responsibility. Agreements reached in Vienna and St. Petersburg in 2016 are about it.”

To the clarifying question why MG doesn’t appear with addressed statements, he replied, that MG Co-Chairs aren’t judges, but mediators, and should work with the consent of all sides, “If those agreements are brought to life, they should at least be able to bring the guilty side to responsibility, and as Azerbaijan isn’t interested in it, it prevents those developments as much as it can.”
