This is the first step: Sergey Minasyan
“As compared to former Armenia-Iran military cooperation formats, here we observe a more active and visible process,” political scientist Sergey Minasyan told 168.am, reflecting to Armenia’s Defence Minister Vigen Sargsyan’s official visit to Iran and agreements reached during it.
“I don’t say we can touch upon outreach and concrete cooperation or a military alliance, however, I consider, the circumstance that Azerbaijan is activating military-political, military-technical, also intelligence cooperation, it’s visible to Tehran, and approaches of Iran’s authorities are the first step of concrete military cooperation, regarding how Armenia and Iran will attempt to somewhat influence on Azerbaijan-Israel cooperation,” the political scientist said.
To the question, what steps Azerbaijan may take in that context, he replied, “Azerbaijan will attempt to use its own leverages, those linked to Islamic solidarity, including the leverage of blackmail, that they will more activate cooperation with Israel, however it’s politics. It’s clear, that Azerbaijan is using internal political debates on parliamentary level as certain messages to Tehran. Aliyev’s visit to Tehran is also planned: it may be used as well, attempting to somehow balance activating cooperation with Armenia.”
