US to cut UN funds by over 50%: Foreign Policy
President Trump’s administration has told the State Department to cut more than 50 percent of U.S. funding to United Nations programs, Foreign Policy reported citing its sources.
The push for the drastic reductions comes as the White House is scheduled to release its 2018 topline budget proposal Thursday, which is expected to include a 37 percent cut to the State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development budgets, the Hill reported.
According to Foreign Policy “the US currently spends over 10 billion dollars annually on UN.” Foreign Policy said Trump’s intentions on the UN spending cuts are “an unprecedented setback from those international actions which allow to maintain peace, provide vaccinations for children, follow unauthorized nuclear programs, as well as assist peace talks in various locations, from Syria to UN.”
