Greta Garbo’s New York city apartment is for sale
Hollywood legend Greta Garbo famously once declared, “I never said, ‘I want to be alone.’ I only said, ‘I want to be left alone.’ There is all the difference.” And the place where she probably most loved being left alone, her apartment of 40 years in New York City’s Campanile at 450 East 52nd Street, is now for sale, the Daily Mail reported.
The three-bedroom, three-bathroom co-op faces the East River, a feature of the apartment that Garbo loved since “the passing boats reminded her of her beloved, native Stockholm,” according to the Halsted listing, which encompasses the entire fifth floor of the building. The 34-by-20-foot living room with a working fireplace was Garbo’s favorite, and the actress reportedly loved to step out onto its balcony in the morning.
The walls and headboard in the master bedroom are covered in Garbo’s favorite pink Fortuny silk, and one of the other bedrooms features a bright V’soske rug called “Birds in Flight,” which Garbo designed. Scroll down to see inside the apartment, including a video tour with the listing brokers.
