Iraqi Kurdistan may hold referendum on independence in autumn

The referendum on independence of Iraqi Kurdistan may be held in October-November 2017, representative of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in Russia Hoshawi Babakr told RIA Novosti.

“It will be held in autumn. The exact date is not decided yet, but it will be held in autumn, may be in November, or even in October,” Babakr said when asked whether the date of the referendum is already decided.

Iraqi Kurdistan, officially called the Kurdistan Region by the Iraqi constitution, is located in the north of Iraq and constitutes the country’s only autonomous region.
