EU assists Armenia’s migration and border management improvement process

The EU-financed ‘Assistance for migration and border management in Armenia’ program began modernization works of border checkpoints in southern Armenia with the UNDP and state structures of Armenia.

The works are underway in Meghri, which borders Iran. This process will improve Armenia’s migration and border management, increase the level of security and facilitate trade.

Armen Sakapetoyan, Deputy chairman of the State Revenue Committee, said the Meghri checkpoint will operate under a one-window system for cargo shipments and individuals.

The improvements will also boost trade turnover between Armenia and Iran. The main goal of the program is compliance of Armenia’s migration and border management system with European standards.
