We don’t have the right to disappoint the people: Serzh Sargsyan

Each of the newly elected MPs in accountable not only to his political force, but first of all for the voters who have hopes in them, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan said in his remarks during the first session of the newly elected Parliament.

“All times cause problems, we must pass on a country having less issues to our generations through decisions made in this hall, we must pass on a more powerful and firmly standing state to our generations. The great volume of duties which the Members of Parliament and Cabinet members will have shortly is obvious. If in the presidential system a higher institution existed from these two bodies, the President of Armenia institution, which could have corrected the possible mistakes or insure these bodies from possible shortcomings, then in the parliamentary administration system this kind of institution will no longer exist.

Therefore it will be necessary to rely on your own powers, experience and circumspect. Expansion of powers doesn’t happen for no reason. Each of you is accountable not only to his political force, but first of all before the voters, before all those people who have linked their hopes with those sitting here today by voting in their favor, a hope of a better fatherland, a hope of having a more secure and just fatherland. And we, here present, don’t have the right to disappoint these people,” the President said.
