Armenia extradites Valery Permyakov to Russia

The extradition of Valery Permyakov by Armenia to Russia took place on May 18, 2017 in the sidelines of the Moscow Convention of 1998 “On the Transfer of the Sentenced Persons for the Further Service of the Sentence” for ensuring the implementation of August 23, 2016 verdict of Shirak Province First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction, the press service of the Justice Ministry of Armenia informed.

As a result of consultations with Russian law enforcement bodies an agreement was reached on providing information on Permyakov’s sentence implementation in case of relevant requests by the Armenian side. Recall that earlier the Ministry of Justice of Armenia received the decision of the Court of the Russian Federation on recognizing the verdict of the Shirak District First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction and implementing it in the territory of the Russian Federation.

The decision of the Russian Court guarantees the full and unconditional implementation of the verdict of life-sentenced Valery Permyakov as prescribed by the international agreements between the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation. On August 23, 2016 Valery Permyakov – serviceman of the Russian military base of Gyumri – was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murders of seven members of the Avetisyan family. Valery Permyakov murdered 7 members of the Avetisyan family in Gyumri on January 12, 2015.

The youngest victim was a 6 months old baby. Six of the victims were gunned down, and the baby was stabbed. Permyakov was apprehended while trying to illegally cross the Armenian-Turkish border. Earlier, a criminal case was filed from the Russian side, which sentenced Permyakov to 10 years imprisonment for illegal possession of firearms and absence without official leave.
