Presidential election kicks off in Iran
The presidential election kicked off in Iran at 08:00 local time, reports TASS. More than 63.000 polling stations were opened for voting. Four candidates are running for the post – Hassan Rouhani, Ebrahim Raisi, Mostafa Mirsalim and Mostafa Hashemitaba.
According to polls, Hassan Rouhani and Ebrahim Raisi almost have equal chances to win. The candidates need to receive more than 50% of the votes to win. If no one receives the minimum required votes, second round will be held where the two leaders of the first round will compete.
The voting will continue until 18:00. According to the data of the National Election Commission, over 56 million people are eligible to vote.
