UK counter-terrorism police arrest terror suspect heading for Turkey
The UK Specialist Operations branch within London’s Metropolitan Police Service have arrested a 37-yearold terrorist suspect at London Stansted Airport before he could board a flight to Turkey.
“Officers from the MPS Counter Terrorism Command arrested a 37-year-old man at Stansted Airport last night (Tuesday, 23 May) prior to him boarding a flight to Turkey. He has been arrested on suspicion of preparing for acts of terrorism contrary to Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
The man has been taken to a south London police station where he is being detained under the Terrorism Act. Officers are now searching two residential addresses in north London. This arrest is linked to travel to Syria. This is not linked to the terrorist incident in Manchester,” Scotland Yard said in a statement.
