It is the state’s duty to ensure the child’s best interest in all cases and create conditions for the child to grow up in healthy, happy and prosperous family: Arman Tatoyan
Human Rights Defender of Armenia Arman Tatoyan addressed a congratulatory message on the International Day of Protection of Children, the Ombudsman’s Office informed. The message says:
“June 1, as an International Day of Protection of Children, is celebrated since 1950. Numerous important documents were signed in the world aimed at making that protection effective and deep. In 1959 the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of Children and the Convention on the Rights of Children in 1989.
The signatory states were obliged to take necessary measures to ensure the child’s protection from all forms of discrimination. In 2016 Armenia adopted the constitutional law on ‘Human Rights Defender’.
It authorizes the Ombudsman to carry out control on the use of provisions of the UN Convention on the Rights of Children, prevention of violations of children’s rights, as well as their protection. Starting from last year the Department of Protection of Rights of Children operates in the Ombudsman’s Office.
Regular visits are being held to institutions dealing with child care and protection and educational institutions. We always keep in our spotlight the protection of rights of children, the disability issues, violence and trafficking cases.
All laws relating to protection of children’s rights are based on the child’s best interest, the most important from the rights of a child is the right to have and live in a family. It is the state’s duty to ensure the child’s best interest in all cases and create conditions for the child to grow up in healthy, happy and prosperous family. Dear children, I congratulate you on June 1 and wish you happy childhood, happy family and peaceful homeland”.
