The General Prosecutor has ordered a crackdown on Minasyan
Armenian authorities have failed to reinstate an Interpol Red Notice against Mikayel Minasyan, the former Armenian ambassador to the Holy See and the former president’s son-in-law, despite requesting a reconsideration of its removal.
According to sources cited by Pastinfo.am, during the recent discussion, Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office has decided to file new charges against Minasyan and indict several of his former business associates alongside him. The Prosecutor office concluded that imposing a Red Notice on Minasyan’s associates could facilitate the reinstatement of a notice against Minasyan himself and made Interpol’s Commission to reconsider its decision.
It is worth noting that, according to several media outlets, after Anna Vardapetyan’s appointment as Prosecutor General, she vowed to pursue every possible avenue to secure a new Interpol notice against Mikayel Minasyan, who remains one of the most prominent political opponents of the current Armenian government.
Recent reports suggest that Minasyan’s team is actively preparing for the upcoming elections, potentially posing a significant challenge to Pashinyan’s government.
Press reports indicate that Anna Vardapetyan also directed an appeal against the acquittal of Serzh Sargsyan, Mikayel Minasyan’s father-in-law, handed down by the court months ago after a trial that lasted nearly four years.
