VOICES OF ARMENIA

The inaugural Armenia–European Union Summit will be held in Armenia, on 4-5 May, 2026. In the lead-up to the Summit, officials of the European Union, heads of different countries, and representatives of the international media are expected to arrive in Armenia. On 3 May, marking World Press Freedom Day, at 12:00, the Union of Journalists of Armenia will convene the conference “VOICES OF ARMENIA”.

The conference will address issues pertaining to freedom of the press, freedom of expression, and fundamental human rights, and this event will bring together heads of leading media organizations in Armenia, journalists, human rights defenders, lawyers and public figures.

Each of the invited speakers will deliver a 10-minute speech, presenting the regression of democratic values in Armenia and the violations of human rights across various sectors.

The opening remarks will be delivered by SATIK SEYRANYAN, the conference organizer, President of the Union of Journalists of Armenia, and Editor-in-Chief of the ‘168 Hours’ newspaper.

The conference speakers include:

1. SIRANUSH SAHAKYAN, advocate and the director of the International and Comparative Law Center, representative of the interests of Armenian prisoners of war at the European Court of Human Rights,

2. JOHN EIBNER (via video message) – President of Christian Solidarity International (CSI), Human Rights Advocate,

3. ROBERT AMSTERDAM, International lawyer specialising in political advocacy and human rights,

4. ARAM ABRAHAMYAN, Chief Editor of “Aravot” Daily,

5. VARDAN POGHOSYAN, constitutional law expert, political scientist

6. ARAM ORBELYAN, Managing Partner of the Concern Dialog law firm, attorney, international law specialist,

7. ARMINE OHANYAN, Chief editor of “Hraparak” daily newspaper,

8. GEGHAM STEPANYAN, Artsakh Ombudsman,

9. RUBEN MELIKYAN, lawyer, human rights defender,

10. NAREK GALSTYAN, political scientist, PhD in Historical Sciences, director, and Chief editor of 24news.am,

11. HOVHANNES KHUDOYAN, lawyer, human rights defender,

12. KAREN VRTANESYAN – propaganda researcher, expert

 Representatives of diplomatic missions operating in the Republic of Armenia and members of the international media are invited to attend the conference.

 The conference will be broadcast in both Armenian and English.
