Why would they go to Davos?

The World Economic Forum 2014 will take place in Davos of Switzerland on January 22-25. This is one of the most outstanding economic global events in the world, which hosts presidents and top leaders of countries around the world. Armenia is not participating in the World Economic Forum in Davos this year. Instead of this event the Armenian government prefers to participate in other economic platforms. One such example is the “Summer Davos 2013” event that was held in China. Let’s not discuss the fact that summer events such as the one above can never be compared to the high class forum in Davos. The explanation of not participating in the Forum in Davos by the fact of having participated in the event in China is ridiculous. The PR’s spokesman would be better to be honest and say “why would they go to Davos?” In fact the economic event in Davos hosts the leaders of those countries that want to govern their economies with modern models. Due to the decision announced on September 3 to join the Customs Union bloc Armenia has appeared in the “club” of underdeveloped countries, the best explanation of which was given by Nursultan Nazarbayev, president of Kazakhstan – one of the founding members of the Customs Union. He specifically said that Kazakhstan, together with the Soviet Union (which they are trying to restore as a new bloc called Eurasia Union) is behind the West by 50 years. Whatever the reasons of not participating are, we cannot say whether the government refused to participate in the event in Davos in order to save money on expensive trips and charter flights. It is more possible that the Armenian government did not receive approval to participate from Moscow. Otherwise Prime-Minister Tigran Sargsyan would not miss this opportunity of giving lectures about “Armenia’s European vision” in the beautiful resorts of Switzerland. He would not miss such opportunity especially after his recent statement saying that he is fluent not only in Russian but English as well.
