Armenia’s internal sabotage

The parliament of Armenia has adopted a bill increasing the number of the Controller Commission members from 7 to 11. Five seats are given to RPA, and one seat to LS and each of the four non-government political parties represented in the parliament. The non-government parties claim that it is unacceptable to give majority in the commission to RPA, and for this reason they do not accept their seats. Afternoon the four non-government political parties initiated discussion of the gas agreement and related issues. In fact these two issues show the set up of relations in the parliament.

The government formed the controller commission in the same manner as they organize elections – they artificially increased the number of the commission members to have majority of votes. If in the formation of this commission the government increased the number of their representatives arbitrary, they do similar things during elections in violation of the Criminal Code.

However, what the opposition did after the elections is that they happily took their mandates, and even they protect their seats through all possible means and say that those who want them to drop their mandates are doing orders of the government. How does it come that the opposition boycotts the commission that is not very important but instead accepts the mandates they could get following falsified elections?

Evidently the gas agreement is directly connected with the decision to join the Customs Union. The opposition criticized some aspects of that agreement to a permitted extent, however they did not come up with an initiative to create an ad hoc to look into all aspects of that decision because this could question the “historical decision” to join the Customs Union. The opposition may claim that the decision to join the Customs Union was a unilateral decision by the president, but the gas agreement is about voting and the parliament as well. These are technical details only. In fact the decision to join the Customs Union is more important and fatal, and the gas agreement is a consequence only. If the opposition decided to create an ad hoc to look into this issue, the Armenian-Russian parliamentary club members would take it wrong, thus they prefer the gas agreement… Galust Sahakyan said recently that what the opposition was doing was political sabotage. However, he did not specify who he meant. In fact what is happening in Armenia and with Armenia now is really sabotage against the society and state. This is sabotage that is being done by the authorities and covered-up opposition. Maybe Galust Sahakyan does not understand how this is possible. It is OK that he does not understand this because he is the head of the parliamentary majority.
