Close Georgia-Azerbaijan-Turkey Relations are not an Obstacle for Armenia-Georgia Relations: Vaso Kapanadze
“Georgia has socialized by the principle of peace with all its neighbours,” Vaso Kapanadze, Georgian former officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Georgian analyst, told reporters at today’s online briefing. Kapanadze stated, that chaos in the Middle East is a threat to security not only for the South Caucasus, but also for the whole world. Thus, according to him, the major fear is that tension in Syria wasn’t turned into Russia-Turkey dimensioned war. “Recent accord gives hope and ground, that the situation won’t get out of control. Even if the situation sharpens in the region, supposedly Georgia, which is a member neither of NATO nor of CSTO, it’s less possible that it’d directly be engaged in the conflict,” the analyst said.
As for Georgia’s possible membership to NATO, Kapanadze considers, in near future it shouldn’t be anticipated. According to him despite assurances by NATO leaders, the issue has been postponed. “In fact, Georgia has conflicting territories in its space—Abkhazia and South Ossetia, thus it’s less probable, that Georgia will engage with NATO under very clear reasons and Georgia’s membership to the alliance will just remain talks, as they are now,” he said.
Touching upon Georgia-Turkey-Azerbaijan and Georgia-Armenia relations, Kapanadze said that Georgia is developing its ties both with Turkey and Azerbaijan, as well as with Armenia. I don’t think that close Georgia-Azerbaijan-Turkey relations may be an obstacle for further development of Armenia-Georgia ties. Georgia acts upon this principle, “Children, let’s live in peace,” like in the well-known cartoon,” Vaso Kapanadze assured.
