Sharmazanov’s Reply to Oskanian

Eduard Sharmazanov, RA NA Deputy Speaker reflected to MP Vartan Oskanian’s statement, that Robert Kocharyan’s power, together with its shortcomings, recorded great success as well, especially against the background of today’s economic and foreign policy issues.

In an interview with reporters Eduard Sharmazanov stated it was not new for him that, “If Mr. Oskanian’s memory doesn’t betray him, he’d remember that RPA has been responsible for political processes since 1999. In the period of Robert Kocharyan’s presidency chairman of the Parliament was Andranik Margaryan, the then head of Republican Party of Armenia.”

And if seeming failures are put on the shoulders of the Republicans, he should be a little objective and memorize if from 1998 to 2007 we recorded economic success, to the extent they consider this success as theirs, Republican Party considers of itself, and that of then Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan. So, there is no need to implement artificial separation. From 1999 up to day RPA has been responsible both for the negative and for the positive,” Sharmazanov said.

Touching upon the statement by Vartan Oskanian, that authorities of that time bear responsibility for 1 March 2008, Sharmazanov stated that regarding all processes, always authorities are responsible in any case. “But the responsible and the guilty are different things. Investigation is being held, I don’t want to interfere into legal affairs, however there is an unwritten law—for political processes first and foremost authorities are the guilty.”

To the question when the authorities will bear that responsibility, so that people felt it as well, NA Deputy Speaker replied, “Responsibility is implemented in different ways. It’s not mandatorily an imprisonment or any other legal implication. By saying responsibility I mean political responsibility. And any political responsibility is charged with elections before the public. If people positively assess activity by the authorities, and votes “yes”, and if not, it won’t vote for the Republican Party. There won’t be any big tragedy here.”
