Meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents is a Good sign in Itself: Jean-Francois Charpentier
“Talks between presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan are a good sign,” Jean-Francois Charpentier, French Ambassador to Armenia, told reporters today touching upon Sargsyan-Putin-Aliyev meeting held yesterday.
The Ambassador stressed that in the period of one moth two presidential meetings have been recorded, first of which was in Vienna and the second one—in St. Petersburg, first time due to the initiative of the U.S. diplomacy, and the second one—Russian.
In his words, not going deep into the details, we may say that the fact, that presidents of the two states meet, and talks are recorded, tended to installation of means of trust, is a good sign in itself, as without a dialogue there won’t be a political settlement, the process of recognizing one another, integrating into and understanding dispositions of the opposing side.
“I can only add the following, that the statement, which followed yesterday’s meeting held in St. Petersburg, once again stressed readiness of France to accompany this negotiation process,” the Ambassador said.
To the question whether it’s possible to record a presidential meeting with the mediation of France, the Ambassador didn’t exclude such a possibility.
“Why not. It’s said in the context of St. Petersburg meeting, that other meetings are anticipated as well, i.e. by the format, upon which yesterday’s meeting was organized. We have always stressed our readiness to launch meetings in France,” the Ambassador said.
