Probably Russia Proposed Azerbaijan to Involve in EEU to Put Forward its Economic Borders before Iran and Azerbaijan Demanded Artsakh: Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan
Political scientist Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan applying to Russian analysts, who claimed that Turkey instigated the April war, and Russia only intends to establish peace, told at today’s discussion, “You say, that Turkey brings war to the region, and Russia brings peace. It’s painful to realize that Russia perceived it only after Turkey downed Russian plane. I have the impression that April attack on Artsakh by Azerbaijan, surely, wasn’t by that of Russia’s permit, however, silent consent of the Kremlin is apparent. You say that Turkey instigated Azerbaijan to such operations, I agree, that recently Turkey attempted to spread its influence on the region, which it did by generating conflict situations. However, Turkey couldn’t provide a guarantee that the attack will succeed. It’s clear for everyone, if it were instigated by Turkey only, in that case the risk would be great that interests of Turkey and Russia would clash in the region and Turkey would be defeated.”
As for Azerbaijan, according to the political scientist, such disposition in this issue is definite, “They’ll sign peace accord even with the devil only in case, when Karabakh totally is involved within Azerbaijan. What has changed in the region, that Azerbaijan decided to afford itself initiate war against Armenia and Artsakh? Regional instability allowed to suppose that this will have no after-effects for Azerbaijan, even if they don’t win the war, they won’t be seriously criticized. Destabilization in the region is a big challenge for Russia, which is under international sanctions, fights in Ukraine and Syria, and the third front here wasn’t beneficial to Russia. For Russia it’s also a great challenge, that Iran was unsanctioned and is increasing its influence in the region, and Azerbaijan is becoming a transit route for Iranian trade turnover.”
After introducing this, the political scientist came to the conclusion that, “Maybe Russia offered Azerbaijan to become an EEU member country, to put its economic borders before Iran. Surely, Azerbaijan asks only one thing for that, which has always been existent, and Russia’s silent concord was also available. There are events, which don’t need hurrying linked to integration processes, as Azerbaijan may be observed within EEU, which isn’t in line with Armenia’s interests.”
Aleksey Martynov (Moscow) director of the International Institute of the Newly Established States, Russia didn’t give a silent consent, that Azerbaijan launched a war against Armenia, “It’s the thesis by Erdogan for the simple purpose—to involve Russia in another regional conflict. You say that Azerbaijani attack on Artsakh is an attack on Armenia, but they are not totally the same. Erdogan would be eager that the conflict deepened and passed on from Artsakh contact line to Armenia-Azerbaijan border, as in that case pursuant CSTO agreement Russia would have to interfere militarily and enter Turkey through the territory of Azerbaijan. And here direct clash would have been recorded.”
Then the Russian analyst added, “I don’t know where did you take that information from, however, Russia isn’t waging a war in Ukraine and it hasn’t ever waged. This is the very anti-Russian propaganda led within various circles. By that they justify the sanctioning policy, by which the West attempts to isolate Russia. You see, they failed, as today it’s being touched upon in Europe and the West on its suspension, and they observe that it doesn’t lead to anything. A serious geo-political war is on, a war for the future. And when Russia says let’s establish peace, on the one hand, nobody can be against, everybody supports it, however, the West doesn’t want to lose control.”
