Agreements Reached in Vienna Outline the Way of NK Conflict Settlement: Piotr Świtalski
“It’s clear for us all that last months conveyed a new process and dynamics to NK conflict settlement process. Vienna meting opened a new chapter in the process of efforts directed to seeking a total settlement. Recently we edified another important meeting in St. Petersburg. The EU completely supports efforts within these frameworks, of course, the leading role is assumed by Europe and the Minsk Group (MG). In near future—tomorrow, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus will meet RA president and Foreign Minister. His visit edifies that the EU intends to be perceived as a supporting partner,” Head of EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski told reporters today touching upon Karabakh conflict.
According to him, it wouldn’t be prudent to talk much of those efforts, as this period is mostly requires a secret and a silent process. The Ambassador stated that the EU continues assistance to the efforts directed to puzzling out the process, agreements reached in Vienna, as they outline the way of conflict settlement.
According to Świtalski, the component of complex approach towards the conflicts in the EU strategy holds a special role, the EU intends to have a bigger place in the space of conflict prevention, and through preventive measures to avert conflicts. He stated that the EU will gladly have its participation in acquisition of a lasting reconciliation on NK issue.
The EU Ambassador refused to comment on the statements by Azerbaijani president, Aliyev’s refusal on installation of investigative mechanisms and called on silence, “As I already mentioned, rather serious efforts are exerted, in particular, by the MG Co-Chairs. This is not the time of public diplomacy, and I don’t tend to comment on one of the public statements. Let the diplomacy work.”
