Russia-Turkey Rehabilitation doesn’t Eliminate Threat of NK Conflict Outbreak: Cengiz Aktar
“Russia-Turkey rehabilitation will be positively reflected on NK conflict settlement,” Cengiz Aktar, well-known publicist, Associate Professor at Süleyman Şah University, said touching upon Russia-Turkey relations and NK conflict.
Cengiz Aktar stated that crisis in Russia-Turkey relations was inevitable on account of nature and geo-political ambitions of the presidents of Turkey and Russia. However, according to him, time showed that they paid a rather high price for that worsening in case, when their resources were rather restricted. In his words it really refers price, interests, money, “I mean both Russia and Turkey. For this very reason that weak letter was accepted in Moscow with great enthusiasm, Russia and Turkey couldn’t afford such a lavishness to continue this confrontation, as economic projects and turnover had rather serious volumes, and today Turkey and Russia aren’t in economically favorable conditions. Under different realities maybe this confrontation would last long, however, Putin was pressed from sanctions, and Erdogan from serious geo-political and internal issues, which also require much expenditures, and which made Erdogan be cautious, thus it’s time to rehabilitate that loss,” Cengiz Aktar said.
He is of the opinion, that Russia-Turkey relations will no more be like they used to, moreover, they’ll be rather cautious and balanced, as heads of both states realized real value and price of those relations. In his conviction, hereinafter leaders of the two states will consider each other’s steps, after-effect of this on the whole will be positive for relations of both states.
Touching upon NK conflict settlement, Aktar stated that settlement of Russia-Turkey relations should definitely become a stabilizing factor for the region.
“I told previously that Azerbaijan will attempt to make use of any instability in the region, which it attempted to do in April. I’m also of the conviction that activities of Azerbaijan with Turkey aren’t particularly agreed, as Turkey attempts to keep some distance from the conflict, and Azerbaijan strives to involve Turkey. Simply any instability is in favor of Azerbaijan. I think, for a short-term future rehabilitation of Russia-Turkey relations will be positively reflected on NK conflict, however, it won’t completely eliminate the threat for NK conflict outbreak, as Azerbaijan intends to reach its imagined NK conflict settlement through exerting pressure. Conflict history and Azerbaijan’s recent activities show this.
Thus, mediators should attach great attention to negotiations attempting to balance Moscow’s regional ambitions on account of created proper moment, when Moscow makes concessions around some complicated issues. Maybe the deal with Moscow will be possible as well, active work should be performed to that end and conflict settlement should be left to the sides,” Aktar concluded.
