NATO-Russia Hybrid War will be Launched on the Very Territory, where New NATO Forces will Appear: Vitali Portnikov
“NATO doesn’t properly assess Putin’s reflection like it used to. Baltic countries and Poland may become other fronts of hybrid war, as Ukraine is not Putin’s goal,” Vitali Portnikov, Ukrainian analyst wrote in his article published on glavnoe.ua, concluding the results of NATO Summit.
According to him Ukrainian observers, touching upon the results of Warsaw NATO Summit, centralize firstly on the results recorded on Ukraine. According to Portnikov, the results are really impressive: support system package to be provided to Ukraine was approved, which was much touched upon throughout recent months; president Poroshenko met G5leaders, during which efforts directed to the settlement of the situation on Donbas was touched upon. In short, in his words Ukraine approached NATO.
“Moreover, for the first time throughout last decades Euro-Atlantic aspirations of the authorities coincided with public moods. When in 1997 in Madrid president Kuchma was signing a Charter on relations with NATO, to integrate with the alliance, and moreover, on the necessity to join it, rather small part of the population was sharing his opinion. Today, when president Poroshenko first and foremost speaks of reforms, and then of joining NATO, most part of the population doesn’t understand him, as they tend to join the alliance.
However, saying that Ukraine was the main topic of the Summit will be great exaggeration. Major topic was security of the alliance. And this means—Russia. Decisions adopted in Warsaw—strengthening of NATO’s presence in the east of Europe, shift from missile defense system to initial martial readiness condition, show that they’re not going to sit with hands folded in the alliance and wait for new Russian provocations. In fact, that readiness has a rather serious sense. I’d say, for our country the fact, that Putin has awakened NATO, is important, as if NATO focused on Ukrainian issues, that would lead only to further escalation in our country.
The fact, that NATO is starting to perceive Russia as a threat, just the contrary, it may lead to de-escalation. They were waiting in Moscow, that NATO will actively interfere with Ukrainian situation, which would prove the opportunity to initiate military conflict with the alliance in our country. It didn’t occur, however, NATO didn’t hide from the provocateur of impudent Kremlin, strengthening its troops in the east and showing readiness to fight if Russia doesn’t pass it, what in NATO is considered its own red line,” Vitali Portinkov writes.
The latter reminded that activities towards Ukraine aren’t Vladimir Putin’s chief goals, moreover, it’s only a part of the Kremlin’s foreign policy strategy. War with Ukraine is only the reminder, that the West shouldn’t pass Russia’s red lines.
In his conviction hybrid war will be launched on the very territory, where new NATO forces will appear—in Baltic countries and even in Poland, on the very borders of the enclave with Kaliningrad.
