Turkey can’t Participate in NK Negotiations: Turkologist
“Return to Russia-Turkey relations is not easy,” Viktor Nadein-Rayevsky, political analyst, a senior fellow of the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Institute of World Economy and International Relations, told 168.am, touching upon Russia-Turkey rapprochement.
The Russian analyst stated, that Russian sanctions imposed against Turkey gradually left their influence on Turkey’s economic condition, and in particular, among the tourists. On international arena, according to the analyst, Turkey didn’t have its anticipated support from its Western partners, thus, it appeared in isolation.
“Under these conditions Erodgan had to re-edit his foreign policy. Thus, settlement of relations with Israel was initiated, which was followed by the apology addressed to Russia. Russia’s authorities accepted the apology of Turkey’s president, and Russia passed on to the process of bilateral relations’ settlement. However, at that very stage Turkey’s attempted coup was initiated, organization of which Erdogan immediately attributed to his ideological and political opponent Fethullah Gülen. However, that coup was so badly organized that, that everybody thought this was organized by Erdogan himself, who attempts to reach expansion of his constitutional liabilities with this,” the Russian analyst said.
In his observations, Russia and Turkey have already initiated steps towards settlement of their relations. However, in his assessment, restoring former relations isn’t an easy job, as Russian trade organizations have already found new suppliers, although they’ll welcome the return of Turkish production to the market. “If non-visa regime is restored, it’ll be easiness for the many, as there are Russia-Turkey joint businesses, families, educational programs. Currently some perspectives for that stability are being shaped,” Viktor Nadein-Rayevsky said. To the question how Maria Zakharova’s remarks regarding the fact that Turkey may participate in NK conflict peaceful settlement negotiations should be perceived, Reavsky replied that Turkey, supporting Azerbaijan this or that way, participated in the conflict. However, in his words, obviously Turkey can’t participate in NK conflict peaceful settlement negotiations.
“Maria Zakharova mentioned that Turkey can have a positive investment in the conflict settlement process, as it has repeatedly supported Azerbaijan’s activities. I perceive Zakharova’s remarks this way, it’s clear that Turkey won’t become a participant to negotiation format, Armenia will be against, and even in case of such a perspective Armenia won’t allow it. Russia hasn’t changed its policy, essence of which is balance maintenance between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and Turkey will divert that balance, which isn’t beneficial for Russia,” Russian Turkologist said.
