Hrant Bagratyan: How did Armenia benefit from the GPS+ regime with the EU?

At today’s session of NA Standing Committee, during which allocations for European integration in the budget project was being touched upon, MP Hrant Bagratyan asked how much Armenia made use of the GPS+ regime with the EU.

“If we made use of it, we have an issue, as tomorrow we shouldn’t,” Bagratyan said.

Gagik Melkonyan, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Investments, informed that trade regime was provided to Armenia in an updated form, for 10 years since 2014. According to him, the EU regularly touches upon its assessment and implementation of the country’s liabilities, internal decisions are being made based on them to move forward its natural development or implementation of changes. According to the Deputy Minister Armenia has submitted a report twice, and the last one was on September 15.

He said that 27 international conventions are meant, which the country should adopt and implement, “Coefficient of Armenia’s use is one of the highest. 10 countries in the world make use of it, and Armenia is the only one in the region. In case of availability of 600 product certification they are exported to the EU without obstacles, customs dues. This creates a rather positive snapshot to found a production in Armenia.”
