Yerevan has lost nothing by membership to EEU: Serzh Sargsyan
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan told “Rossiya Segodnya” that he considers Yerevan’s decision to join the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) correct.
“For Armenia membership to EEU, unfortunately, coincided with worsening of economic condition of the locomotive of that union—Russian Federation, linked to imposed sanctions. Naturally our economy is rather small; we are connected to Russian economy through thousands of threads. For this very reason, let me express this way, external influence a bit worsened our indices,” he said.
Moreover, Sargsyan assured that Yerevan “acted correctly” and “has lost nothing.”
“I consider in 1-2 years citizens of EEU member countries will feel that. We have a market of 3 million, it’s a very small market. By becoming a EEU member country, we have become a part of a market of 170 million. If, finally, we reach those purposes, laying on the ground of that union—free move of commodities, services, workforce and capital, then we, of course, will gain a lot,” Serzh Sargsyan stated.
