If soldiers decide that the Defense Minister properly implements his work and vote for RPA, it’s their right: Vigen Sargsyan
Vigen Sargsyan, Defense Minister of Armenia, told reporters today that speculation of a political resource has been excluded throughout long years,
“Of course, party belonging of a Defense Minister, on the one hand, seems to be a privilege, on the other hand, we should realize that all the issues the army faces are also linked to the political party, which I represent, holding that position. Holding a political position supposes both the possibility to show your policy, your direction, your tendency, and bear the burden for non-implemented or partially implemented actions.
That’s why I consider the president’s words should be directly perceived: development of the activity of political parties in the army won’t be recorded, like during former elections. And if soldiers decide that the Defense Minister implements his work well, and vote in favor of the political party, pre-election proportional list of which I lead, this is their political right and choice.”
Replying to the question whether he doesn’t have concerns that half of the army will vote in favor of Seyran Ohanyan, he said, “I generally consider, that having fears isn’t a political category.”
