For the time being Armenian-Azerbaijani sides are preparing for possible clash: Sergey Minasyan

“We see that particularly tension on Artsakh border rather increases, which was predictable. What happened on Saturday doesn’t yet mean that it was the real grade of anticipated tension, which will happen in visible future. The Azerbaijani side made wrong conclusions from the April developments and will proceed attempts of tension with different level military intensiveness until some developments are recorded, after which the Azerbaijani authorities will draw correct conclusions,” Sergey Minasyan, political scientist, told reporters today, stressing that at the moment the sides are getting prepared for possible clash.

“The sides attempt to increase soberness, they also use new measures regarding equipment and strategy, and this edifies if not wide-scale, then possibility of April escalation is rather high. Against its background we see that the international community is rather passive: yesterday OSCE MG issued another statement, which unfortunately, was about the same style, like after the developments on the frontline at the begging of the year.

Two contradicting expressions are mentioned in this statements: on the one hand, it’s stated that the sides accuse each other in escalation, on the other hand, they call on to provide the opportunity to recover bodies of Azerbaijani saboteurs,” he said, adding that such statement by the Minsk Group generates hesitation.

According to the political scientist, anticipations of positive shifts in negotiations can’t be recorded, “Karabakh developments don’t become a topic for discussion in the international community until escalations like the April War aren’t recorded.”
