Armenia-Iran railway construction still being discussed

The construction of Armenian-Iranian railway is still being discussed. Vahan Martirosyan, Minister of Transport, Communication and Information Technologies, said there is a concession contract with a company within the framework of which discussions are being held with investors and that company.

“In case of finding the necessary funding, a progress will be realized in this process,” the Minister said. The construction of Armenia-Iran railway is one of the priority programs of Armenia’s government. This issue has been repeatedly discussed within the frames of the inter-governmental commissions of the two countries, as well as the meeting of the Presidents of Armenia and Iran.

The construction of Gagarin-Kamo-Martuni-Jermuk-Kapan-Meghri railway is being discussed the length of which will be 469,6 km. According to preliminary calculations, the railway construction will cost nearly 1.5-2 billion USD.
