Fethiye Çetin delivers speech at Armenian Genocide commemorative event in Montebello

The Armenian community of Montebello, California organized a commemorative event for the 102nd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Armenians gathered near the Montebello Memorial of the Armenian Genocide, where they called on the US government to recognize the Genocide.

They laid flowers and candles at the Memorial. Turkish lawyer, writer and human rights activist Fethiye Çetin was among the speakers at the ceremony. It wasn’t until a few years ago that Çetin discovered her grandmother was an Armenian Genocide survivor, who had converted from her religion.

A large proceeding is planned for April 24 in Los Angeles. The protesters will march towards the Turkish Consulate, demanding the Turkish side to recognize the Armenian Genocide.
